Thien Mu Pagoda - the most sacred pagoda in Kinh Ky

If Hanoi has One Pillar Pagoda, then Hue is famous for ancient Thien Mu Pagoda. Situated beside the romantic Perfume River, Thien Mu pagoda adds charm to the beautiful natural scenery, touching the emotion of all travelers coming here.

Acknowledge the legend Thien Mu Pagoda

The pagoda is located at the end of Kim Long Street, Huong Long Ward, in the north of the Perfume River. There are many legends about Thien Mu Pagoda (also known as Linh Mu Pagoda). Once upon a time, locals saw a red old woman appear every night on the hilltop. She foretold that someday, the Lord would go over and build something of great importance. From then on, the hill was named Thien Mu Son (Mount of Woman from Heaven).
When Lord Nguyen Hoang actually walked through the hill, he heard the legend and decided to build a temple named Thien Mu. Having experienced a lot of hectic, damage as well as renovation, the temple still exists and remains an unofficial symbol of the ancient city Hue.

How to go to Thien Mu Pagoda?

Thien Mu Pagoda is 4km away from Hue city center, so you can come here by motorbike, bicycle, boat. A boat trip can also take you to visit Hon Chen and Minh Mang tombs. Guests can also combine a trip to Thien Mu Pagoda and Huyen Khong Son Thuong Pagoda, which is just a few kilometers away. Bike enthusiasts have to remember: a perfect trip should be in the early morning or late afternoon to avoid the heat of Hue

Visiting Thien Mu Pagoda

When visitors come near the temple, the first attraction is the octagonal seven-floor tower named Phuoc Duyen (formerly named Tu Nhan tower). Built in the mid-19th century by King Thieu Tri, the tower is to commemorate the 80th birthday of his grandmother.
Go through the three-door port are 12 giant wood sculptures of scary temple guardians and then in the middle of the area is where the Great Palace - the main shrine of the Thien Mu Pagoda. The Buddha is worshiped with impressive sculptures and a giant bell, 2.5 m in height and 2 tons in weight, was created in the early 18th century.
A building near the rear of the complex has a national monument: the car carrying the monk Thich Quang Duc to the intersection of Phan Dinh Phung and Le Van Duyet in Saigon on June 11, 1963, where he set himself on fire to rebel religious policy of the Saigon regime at that time.

Come to visit Thien Mu pagoda, visitors can enjoy both landscape scenery and traditional architecture typical of Hue pagoda. Located on high ground, visitors have the opportunity to admire the charming curve of the Huong River when standing on the campus of the temple. Surrounded by exquisite pine trees, ornamental plants, and coral reefs, Thien Mu Pagoda offers a peaceful feeling difficult to be found anywhere else.
